The ad, which launches today in the U.S., communicates the brand’s resurgence by spotlighting its high performance cars and their innovative new design. The new 30-second spot is the first ad from Jaguar’s new global ad agency of record, Spark44, and showcases the brand’s highest performance models: the XFR, XJL Supersport and XKR-S.

Anthony remarks about the fast-paced creative process on this job, “I was excited to compose the track in the same building with the whole creative team there. We were able to collaborate at any given minute while reacting to the film narrative, picture edit, musical form or any other spontaneous idea that might walk through the door. It was glorious to hear all our preparation come together in the recording studio with live percussion, classical guitar and a live string section. It was a rare experience to be a part of such an interactive creative process. I believe we pushed each other to achieve our best work and I appreciate that Jaguar was willing to put all this together and trust us.” Comparing the product and the creative team, Anthony goes on to say, “But really, I was very excited to work on this project for two primary reasons – world class cars and a world class creative team. I was inspired every step of the way to work with Bruce Dundore, Vic Huber, Jeff Tober and Kris Roberts, to name a few.”

In “Jaguar at Play,” the models are shown as animated objects -- teasing, challenging and playing with each other in a variety of environments, ranging from the rural forests of northern San Francisco to urban industrial locations. The spot communicates the heightened sense of life drivers feel when they get behind the wheel -- agile, powerful and exhilarated.

"We wanted to show the new 2012 models in all their glory, both for their remarkable performance and sensuous design," said Bruce Dundore, Creative Director, Spark44 North America - the agency behind the project. "These are incredibly fun and impressive cars to drive, and we shot an intriguing and energetic execution that illustrates the exhilaration you feel when you get behind the wheel of these beautiful – and beautifully-created -- cars."

The spot debuts on the NFL Network on December 1 and will also air, in the U.S. only, on national cable and locally, including CNN, ESPN and Comedy Central. It was directed by Vic Huber, of Coyote Productions.

Los Angeles, CA – eHarmony®, a well-known consumer Internet brand, recently introduced a new TV marketing campaign that offers hope and encouragement to single people who want to find their own true love. Music creative for the campaign was led by Los Angeles based music company Music Forever.

Film composer and Music Forever owner Anthony Marinelli was brought on as executive music producer to lend his touch to the campaign, which relies heavily on music and lyrics to celebrate the joy that comes from being loved for exactly who you are. "This is the first time we have created advertising for eHarmony that has no voice over. Music and images tell the brand story in a way that is more powerfully evocative than anything we have done before," said Lucas Donat, CEO of eHarmony's long-time advertising agency DonatWald+Haque.

Marinelli worked closely with Donat and the eHamony marketing team to determine song narratives and textures that conveyed each spot's message and also maintained a cohesive sound for the campaign. One of the first spots in the campaign, called "If It's Love" (song by the band Squeeze), features real eHarmony couples sharing intimate moments in a variety of settings – swinging on a hammock, singing karaoke, and sharing an underwater kiss. Another spot called “What If?” inspires singles to believe that eHarmony’s proven matchmaking process can introduce them to a partner who loves them deeply, genuinely and completely.

Popular music from new artists as well as iconic songs were explored and both directions were chosen. "By bringing forward a large amount of artists and styles we were able to find those rare songs that worked on all levels," noted Marinelli. "We made the whole process as smooth as possible by presenting music that was licensable and tailor edited to picture. It helps to have established relationships with publishers and labels – as soon as something was on the table we made sure to get a deal in place so that the agency and client had all the options in front of them and could pull the trigger."

"It was definitely a quick turnaround especially when you're talking about famous music artists – they're notoriously selective, but we did it," remarks Marinelli. "I was prepared to write original music or even take a well-known song and add additional music to help it fit the emotional arc of each spot. Either way, I needed to make the music support the most important message – that eHarmony is extremely successful at creating genuine, loving, long-term relationships.”

Credits
Advertising Agency: DonatWald+Haque, Santa Monica, CA, USA
Creative Director: Lucas Donat
Art Directors: Rich Pass, Marc Brugnoni, Laurenne Sala
Copywriters: Jim Real, Brian Miller
Producers: Kristen Roberts, Esther Perls, Elizabeth Espat
Director: Errol Morris
Editor: Kim Bica / Arcade

Music: Music Forever
Executive Music Producer: Anthony Marinelli
Music Editor: Clint Bennett
Assistant Music Editor: Beau Bonetti
Music Supervisors: Dana Sano & Libby Umstead
Music Clearance/Legal: Celeste Chada

Contact Music Forever for a complete list of credits.

About Music Forever
Music Forever and composer Anthony Marinelli have been uniquely successful at creating music for well known films and hit records as well as hundreds of high profile and award winning ads including national commercial campaigns for Apple (multiple campaigns), Microsoft, Mercedes Benz, Chevrolet, Budweiser (Super Bowl), Southwest Airlines, Boeing, Accenture (Super Bowl), Sprint, Earth Communications Office, multiple campaigns directed by Joe Pytka, the iconic USA Today top 10 all time commercial This is Your Brain on Drugs, and currently running national campaigns for Shell and eHarmony, original film scores such as Young Guns, Leaving Las Vegas (Academy Award Winner), Time Code (Selma Hayek), Chapter 27 (Jared Leto & Lindsey Lohan), Internal Affairs (Richard Gere & Andy Garcia), 2 Days in the Valley (Charlize Theron & James Spader), and The Man from Elysian Fields (Mick Jagger), and the orchestral work In the Family Way, commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and premiered at the Hollywood Bowl. Lou Beres & Associates/Chicago won a Emmy Award in the public service campaign category for its "Click It or Ticket" campaign for the Illinois Department of Transportation's traffic safety division. The campaign was designed to break through to an audience of offenders (primarily young adults) and remind them that cops are there watching, even at night. "The idea was to portray cops and enforcement in a friendly manner that underscores their dedication to a motorist's safety," explained Lou Beres & Associates Chief Creative Officer Andy Madorsky.
- Chicago Sun Times

They're all flightless birds who share the screen in Washington Lottery's latest TV spot
"Birds," voted #1 last week on Adcritic. The ad shows how winning the
lottery can offer people a chance to do something they never thought
possible – that could change their outlook on the world
.
Seattle's Publicis West was hired to bring the spot to life. They
enlisted Sticks+Stones Studios, Hollywood to shoot, Fischer Edit, Minneapolis for post-production and Music Forever, Hollywood for original music and final mix. The ethereal song features vocals and acoustic guitar in a surrealistic texture with bells and floating phase shifted strings.

Editor Lindy Wilson with visual effects supervisor and Flame artist Jake Parker had to create the feel and believability of these birds taking flight across a grassy hillside. Wilson was able to tap into her past experience with private flight lessons to help create the airy feeling present in the spot. ang-gliders floating above the hillside.

Most of the flying birds were shot as practical elements, suspended from
the hang-glider pilots' harnesses. For the bird's safety, those gliders
were suspended just a few feet from the ground and lensed from a low
camera angle to create the illusion that they were flying high in the
sky. The emu and several gliders were shot against a green screen and
white screen, then composited together to provide the illusion of the emu
taking flight.

The television commercial is quite an atypical direction for a state
lottery to go, away from brazen consumption and excess. Focusing on the
birds' journeys allows viewers to consider what they might do for others.
Wilson describes how the images tie it together, "The beauty shots bring
it value while the documentary-style shots bring it honesty."

It is a kind of New Orleans Style sound for everyman trying to keep it simple in a complicated world. This featured music has remained consistent as the campaign continues to take on new identities over years.

Like last year, the campaign will center in the desire to help consumers stop the build-up of engine gunk on their vehicles’ critical engine parts. In 2008, Shell will continue the current TV commercials in addition to welcoming new TV spots featuring the Passionate Experts and Kevin Harvick. TV advertising will run on network TV and national cable networks throughout the year starting in January. In conjunction with TV, Shell will also introduce a new online campaign, enhanced point-of-purchase materials, radio advertising, outdoor billboards and all-new promotions designed to drive traffic to Shell stations. All marketing components will reinforce last year’s successful Passionate Experts program and educate motorists that “All Gasolines are not the Same.”

Kicking off 2008 will be the “Un-Gunk Your Car” promotion, which will aim to drive traffic to Shell stations and inside convenience stores. From February 11 through March 30, Shell customers who purchase a minimum of 10-gallons of gasoline will receive one free microfiber cleaning cloth specially formulated to help “un-gunk” the interior of their car (no fuel purchase required in New Jersey). While supplies last, consumers will be encouraged to collect all three limited edition versions of the cloth – “Shell V-Power Cleans Up Gunk,” “Un-Gunk Your Car” and “I Hate Gunk” with Kevin Harvick’s No. 29 logo. Each of the 23 million cloths will be accompanied by a 2008 Sprint Cup Series race schedule in support of the Shell relationship with Richard Childress Racing (RCR), Kevin Harvick and the 29 Shell-Pennzoil car.

“With the ‘Un-Gunk Your Car’ promotion, we’re taking ‘stopping gunk’ to a whole new level,” said Karen Wildman, Shell brand and communications manager. “And this year the message will remain simple, providing us with the ideal platform to expand these themes into various marketing initiatives in 2008. We’re excited to bring these programs to our network of wholesalers and retailers, and eventually, to the Shell customers.”
The “Un-Gunk Your Car” promotion will be supported with national TV, online advertising, and point-of-purchase materials, including pump toppers, pole signs, column banners, yard signs, building signs and register toppers. In addition to this promotion, Shell retail sites will continue to reinforce the “Stop Gunky Build-up” messaging.

Click here to read the full article.

For the first time in the TV and movie industry, high-profile SAG actors will be taking their talents directly and exclusively to the Internet -- the very medium which is at the center of the current WGA labor strike against the Alliance Of Motion Picture & Television Producers.

The spots will begin appearing on Thursday morning which will begin posting Thanksgiving Day and run exclusively on DeadlineHollywood.com through Sunday night. Beginning Monday, they can be found on SpeechlessWithoutWriters.com with links on UnitedHollywood.com and every day thereafter during the duration of the strike.

Included are SAG talent such as Sean Penn, Holly Hunter, Laura Linney, Alan Cumming, Jay Leno, Harvey Keitel, Kate Beckinsale, Tina Fey, Tim Robbins, Gary Marshall, David Schwimmer, Patricia Clarkson, James Franco, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Martin Sheen, Josh Brolin, Susan Sarandon, Andre 3000, Chazz Palminteri, Jason Bateman, Christine Lahti, Patricia Arquette, Jenna Elfman, Olivia Wilde, Richard Benjamin, Paula Prentiss, Eva Longoria, Justine Bateman, Joshua Jackson, Rosanna Arquette, Diane Ladd, Rebecca Romjin, Minnie Driver, Nicollette Sheridan, Robert Patrick, Matthew Perry, Ed Asner, and America Ferrera and the cast of Ugly Betty. Arrangements have been made to also shoot Woody Allen, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Jane Fonda, Marisa Tomei, Ethan Hawke, Jason Alexander, Charlize Therone, Minnie Driver, Philip Seymour Hoffman. Many, many more are also in the works.

Here's how the PSAs came about: During the first day of the strike, director/writer George Hickenlooper (Factory Girl) and writer Alan Sereboff (The Red House) were struck by the talent surrounding them on the picket line. Hickenlooper suggested to Sereboff that they focus their energies on a creative campaign. That night, they met at WGA Headquarters with writers Ian Deitchman (Life As We Know It), Justin Zakham (The Bucket List) and director Josh Marston (Maria Full of Grace). After conferring, the team came to an agreement: What better way to bring attention to the issues regarding the Internet then to use the Internet itself?

Hickenlooper, evoking the style of Factory Girl, suggested shooting Warhol-esque screen tests of major SAG talent not saying anything on camera, thus showing their solidarity with the WGA. And Sereboff offered the concept "Speechless," where prominent SAG actors stood silently in front of the camera, ultimately writing and holding up a sign that simply read, "Speechless". Campaigns combined under one name, Hickenlooper and Sereboff joined with WGA/SAG member Kamala Lopez (I Heart Huckabees) and began reaching out to fellow creatives. Within a few days, Hickenlooper/Sereboff had recruited fellow DGA members Wayne Kramer (The Cooler), Paul Haggis (The Valley of Ellah), Rod Lurie (The Contender), WGA writers Steve Pink (Gross Pointe Blank), Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia), two-time Emmy winning writer Jill Kushner (Ellen), Chic Eglee (Executive Producer, The Shield) in addition to the writing staff of The Tonight Show. SAG board member/actress Justine Bateman became involved and was instrumental in recruiting many of her fellow SAG actors to participate.

The "Speechless" idea quickly took off and, after a single day of filming, the team learned that the support of major A-list SAG talent was so overwhelming that many wanted to do more than just a screen test. After extensive conversations with various actors, it was decided that the screen tests might be expanded to improvisational scene work that would be done to entertain those of the public who might not be aware of the importance of the writer, and at the same time create mystery and intrigue surrounding the UnitedHollywood.com website.

On the second day of filming, the screen tests quickly evolved into actual short moments and sometimes full-fledged scenes. The result is a unique series of PSAs bringing together talent in solidarity. The "Speechless" campaign has thus far stockpiled several dozen very creative and innovative spots in black & white, ranging in length from 15 seconds to 4 minutes long.

The "Speechless" campaign support team includes music composer Anthony Marinelli, who is dedicating his time to scoring the spots; Clint Bennett, sound engineer; Joel Marshall, technical advisor; Jill Kushner production manager; Kamala Lopez and Melissa Cochran, editors; Mical shemesh, editor; Justin Schumacher, production sound; and Ian Deitchman who is putting together the website.

For more information regarding the "Speechless" campaign contact SpeechlessWithoutWriters@gmail.com.
On the edges of Las Vegas, 17-year-old Andrew's life is spiraling out of control. Unable to cope with the loss of his father, Andrew's descent into drugs and violence is gaining momentum, and the once promising young man is now headed for self-destruction (in what Variety calls "an especially blistering performance by Monty Lapica"). Andrew's mother (Golden Globe nominee Diane Venora), helpless to control her son and fighting an addiction of her own, refuses to watch idly as her only child destroys himself. As a last resort, she hires a private company to forcibly kidnap and confine him in a locked-down and corrupt psychiatric hospital. As Andrew is subjected to the secret physical and emotional abuses of the program something inside him is re-awakened. He must somehow get free to save what's left of his life, but to do that, he knows he must first face his own demons head-on. Self-Medicated is an extraordinary portrait of redemption and personal triumph over hardship that "packs a startling punch" (Variety). "Raw, unmannered intensity... Self-Medicated is just what the doctor ordered" (Hollywood Reporter). With 39 international film awards, Self-Medicated is the most award-winning independent film of the year.
-Written by ThinkFilm

Thoughtfully crafted voiceover copy pulls in viewers by personalizing the seemingly overwhelming complexities of the issue.
In the spot called "1 Out of 7," for instance, the camera scans a crowd of people moving down an urban sidewalk before it zeroes in on one man in particular while the voiceover copy notes "one out of seven is not just a statistic. It's a father with leukemia." Then the camera pans to catch a woman inside a bus who looks terribly forlorn as the spoken copy says it's also "a friend with depression."
The commercial ends with more copy that makes crystal clear the AMA's stand on health insurance and the uninsured: "To the American Medical Association this is not just a statistic, it's a tragedy."

The AMA is raising its voice via a pleasingly forceful television, print, radio, outdoor and online campaign from Lou Beres & Associates/Chicago. The multimillion-dollar campaign has been carefully charted out to extend over three years.
During 2007, the advertising will highlight the basic issues involved in the health insurance movement. A new Web site, ww.voiceoftheuninsured.org, includes the AMA's own 50-plus page proposal to ensure health insurance for everyone.
Throughout 2008, AMA ads will focus on getting Americans to vote for candidates with the issue of health insurance uppermost in their minds. And in the third year, 2009, the campaign will shift toward talking more to Congress to urge members to pass legislation to fix the health insurance problem. -Lewis Lazare: Chicago Sun-Times

His score for the upcoming feature, Chapter 27, a chronicle of the last days in the life of John Lennon and his assassin, Mark David Chapman, is a new addition to a list of over 50 films including15 Minutes, Timecode, God Said Ha! and Two Days in the Valley. The winner of an Emmy for his music for daytime drama Santa Barbara –– and with an extensive list of Clio and Belding award-winning commercials –– this prolific L.A. native first established himself by embracing the emerging technological trends invented in the early 80’s, and subsequently lending his expertise to projects with such luminaries as Arthur Rubenstein, Jack Nitzsche and Quincy Jones.

Marinelli observes that, for a generation, the Lennon assassination heralded an end of the innocence. His original concept for the score was to enlist friends from the rock world and improvise “a trippy, psychedelic rock score.” But the project and the score underwent a 180-degree turn: The final version features a 60-piece orchestra performing a traditional score that the composer says owes no small debt to the influence of Tchaikovsky. “I used three flutes, like in Nutcracker Suite,” he says. “I wrote a pop song with Rich Price, but the accompaniment is still the orchestra with celeste, harp and strings. It’s very contrary to the pop sensibility.” Despite these reflective touches there are sections that mirror a killer’s manic intensity. “Chapman was in a delusion and I went for it. We can do that in film music, but we often don’t do it enough.”

In a completely different mode, Marinelli offered his production skills to singer/songwriter Shawn Amos for Thank You Shirl-ee May, Amos’ song suite recreation of the life and times of his late mother, an R&B singer in the Sixties. “Shawn asked me to play on one song, then maybe produce some songs and it ended up being the whole album. I just kept going, it was very heartfelt and emotional, and I guess I’m drawn to those types of projects,” Marinelli avows.

Another project with significant heart was Mayor of The Sunset Strip, a documentary on legendary L.A. scenester, Rodney Bingenheimer. With its tremendous amount of source music, Marinelli was hesitant to overload the independent picture with score. “I didn’t want to flood the whole thing full of music –– it would be meaningless,” he notes. But he determined what his contribution should be. “I played what I thought was Rodney. In the midst of this profound exuberance, fame, beautiful Hollywood and happy people with success and money, there was a lot of struggle.”

This past summer Marinelli composed a tone poem, In The Family, featuring narration by writer/actress Julia Sweeny. Commissioned by the L.A. Philharmonic, the 22-minute piece, performed for two nights with a 90-piece orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, is based on Sweeny’s adoption of a baby from China and her travails as a single parent. “It’s comedic, but it goes all over the place,” Marinelli says.

By age 16, Marinelli was already a player in the L.A. studio scene, and his keyboard work was featured on Michael Jackson’s Thriller plus tracks with James Brown, Lionel Ritchie, Van Halen, Supertramp, Diane Reeves, and others. More recently he re-imagined Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass classics in edgy, modern remixes featuring Ozomatli for Rewhipped.

Having recently relocated his studio from the center of Hollywood to his home in Encino, Marinelli modestly notes the progress of his expanding creative livelihood that includes another forthcoming feature, Ripple Effect, starring Forrest Whittaker. “My world’s got a lot in it, two kids, my music career, my family and friends.” And he intends to maintain the diversity that is his forte. “I don’t look at music as categorized or chopped up. I don’t care if it’s roots driven or classical music. It’s all just sound –– sound and emotions.”
Hundreds stood in line amidst freezing temperatures to get a seat. Starring Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, the film centers around the days before the tragic assassination of a leader of a generation John Lennon. There was obviously lots of buzz/controversy about the film due to the subject matter and the cast. The audience was comprised of mostly Lennon fans that still yearn for more connection to their hero.

I was struck by the many contradictions presented to me in scoring the music for this film. The music direction I ultimately chose was not particularly dark and is mostly a fantasy. The end credit song "Fall Into Place" is co-written by myself and sung by Rich Price. It is the only song in the film and based on a culmination of the themes heard in the movie.

“Give Peace a Chance” implies an action that we may still need to consider. Violent protest for peace, aside from being a philosophical contradiction, also allows us to be distracted from the issue at hand by focusing our attention on anger or revenge instead. We will only learn how to be better at violence by practicing it, and probably justify it’s existence as it pertains to our cause.
Peaceful and loving ways need not be passive, however, and may well consider justice toward evil actions. Although the healing process may require an unpleasant journey back to the source of pain, it could be enlightening without glorifying a particular horror.

"Chapter 27" gave me the opportunity to examine the message of John Lennon in an unexpected way. In dealing with my own feelings of anger toward the injustice of his senseless killing, I found his message of peace even more profound. We can be relieved of the burden of evil acts through inquiry, understanding and forgiveness.

His loss marked the end of a particular age of innocence and revolution. We must go on giving peace a chance, and therefore not let an evil action be the very thing that takes peace away from us. We still have his message. We still need it to survive.

-Anthony

The album will be released at the end of August on the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with portions of sales going to the Tipitina's Foundation.

WHAT'S GOING ON will parallel the timeless philosophical and spiritual issues presented by Marvin Gaye in 1971 with "what's going on" 35 years later. Marinelli successfully guides the talented group of artists through this highly charged emotional material with a funky yet sensitive approach not often heard.

The members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band found themselves heading directly towards the projected path of Hurricane Katrina at the end of August, 2005. They had just wrapped up another successful summer outing and the bus was bringing them back home to New Orleans. The bus never got to the destination, as Hurricane Katrina battered the Gulf Coast before the band's arrival. As the members of the DOzen watched the CNN coverage blasting images of their home streets (literally, as the first images were taken from baritone saxiphonist Roger Lewis' neighborhood), they immediately found themselves in the same state of emergency as hundreds of thousands of other Gulf Coast residents, homeless, out of touch, and urgently searching for family members and loved ones.

After finding their loved ones and re-locating to multiple areas across the country, the band proceeded to begin anew. Tourdates were re-scheduled, recording sessions were postponed to deal with property assessment and insurance adjusters, and through it all, the Dozen and the entire city of New Orleans, watched in amazement, as their government, at all levels, reacted at a snal's pace. Talking heads had their theories...blame was passed around to all levels of government, causes were linked to poverty or race issues. But one thing was clear, the people of the region, and in essence, the people of the country, were let down. The unrest was visible and the public witnessed breakdowns that led to looting and evacuation areas...and the DOzen soaked it all in.

When approached by Shout Factory to record their follow-up to the critically acclaimed 2004 release, "Funeral for a Friend," the band had plans to record an album of new original material. But, as the effects of Katrina raged on, their focus shifted and the band felt that it was necessary to re-introduce the world to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On." And, as is often the case with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, they needed to adda twist. The Dirty Dozen have decided to re-interpret "What's Going On" by asking some of hip-hop's wisest emcees to add their two cents on what is really going on in our world right now. In addition, some of the strongest singers of today have been asked to perform on the weighty titles that made "What's Going On" the masterpiece that it is.
It was directed by Jason Matzner. Anthonys ambient electronica score is a perfect compliment to poignant dialogue and beautifully shot desert landscape.
